These past few weeks I’ve been thinking a lot about inspiration.  In order for me to write a new blog post, I need to feel inspired.  It was easy when I lived in Paris where a new experience was around every corner. But sometimes it can feel a little more difficult to be inspired when I’m surrounded by the comforts of home.  However, a few minutes ago, I read a blog post entitled “This is 38. This is midlife”  (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/lindsey-mead-russell/this-is-38-this-is-midlife_b_3451293.html).  Immediately I felt inspired to write my own version.

So: This is 36.

Thirty-six is brimming with opportunities.  It’s realizing that I’ve accomplished a lot so far in my life, and knowing that there’s so much more to look forward to.

Thirty-six is feeling confident in my body and who I am.  It’s knowing what my style is.  Thirty-six is looking in the mirror and liking who I see.

Thirty-six is watching “Girls” and being happy that my 20s were a wild ride, but even happier that they’re over.

Thirty-six is full of loving friendships, that have grown deeper and more beautiful than you ever could have imagined.  Thirty-six is realizing that your friends are in different places- single, married, some with children- and supporting each other every step of the way even if you are living different lives.

Thirty-six is feeling proud of how far you’ve come in your career.  It’s realizing that you can be an excellent mentor and colleague because you have a lot of experiences to share.  It’s figuring out what drives you, where your passions are, and finding ways to satisfy them.

Thirty-six is trusting in yourself.  At thirty-six I know what’s best for me.  Its realizing that my instinct never fails me. It’s feeling like a whole being- a person of the world.  It’s respecting other people and listening to their stories.  It’s sharing your stories- the good, the bad, and the ugly- and accepting that this is what makes you who you are.

Thirty-six is having dance parties with your friend’s two year old.  Thirty-six is sometimes going for jogs, other times going for walks.  It’s enjoying being outside, or catching up with a friend, more than burning calories.

Thirty-six is appreciating wine… chocolate… a great steak… the seafood tower!  It’s savoring great flavors because you can afford to now.  You’ve come a long way from boxed macaroni and cheese.

Thirty-six is having opinions.  Thirty-six is having as many intellectual discussions as it is having nonsensical ones.

Thirty-six is a time to blossom.  Thirty-six is a time to be hopeful about the future.  Thirty-six is joyful, hopeful, and lovely.
